BAUER SPEED PLATE™ FITTING PROTOCOL
Bauer's SPEED PLATE™ features a recovery alloy technology, which basically means that it can be heat molded repeatedly and will either form to a customized fit or back to its original form. It can be heat molded in combination with the skate or separately. Bauer has made the following recommendations for fitting the SPEED PLATE™.
MOLDING SEPARATELY
- 1. Pre-Heat a BAUER Skate Oven for 2-3 minutes.
- 2. Once the skate oven is pre-heated, place both SPEED PLATES™ into the skate oven.
- 3. Wait for the dark Thermo-chromatic ink on the arch of the SPEED PLATE™ to disappear. This should take approximately 1-1 ½ minutes in the oven.
- 4. Once the Thermo-chromatic ink has disappeared, remove one SPEED PLATE™ from the skate oven. Wait 5-10 seconds before inserting the SPEED PLATE™ into the skate. Since the SPEED PLATE™ is quite pliable when it is warm, it is recommended that the skate is in a wide open position (loose lacing with tongue out) to help ensure proper placement of the SPEED PLATE™ into the bottom of the skate. Slide the skate on the player’s foot.
- 5. Quickly lace up the skate. At this point, repeat step 4 for the 2nd skate.
- 6. Once both skates are on, the player should stand up with feet shoulder width apart, toes pointed forward, and a slight bend in their knees. While in this balanced position, hold for approximately 30 seconds. Follow immediately by sitting down for an additional 2 minutes. This allows for the SPEED PLATE™ to fully cool and set.
- 7. SPEED PLATE™ and Skate have now been molded together, promoting optimal performance.
MOLDING SPEED PLATE™ AND SKATES TOGETHER
- 1. Pre-Heat BAUER Skate Oven for 2-3 Minutes.
- 2. Once the skate oven is Pre-Heated, place skates (without SPEED PLATES™) in the oven. Approximately 1 ½ minutes after the skates have been in the oven by themselves, add both SPEED PLATES™ to the bottom of the oven (not inside the skates) until the dark Thermo-chromatic ink on the arch of the SPEED PLATE™ disappears. This should take approximately 1-1 ½ minutes. Note: the total skate heating time is approximately 3 minutes.
- 3. Remove skates and SPEED PLATES™ from the skate oven.
- 4. Since the SPEED PLATE™ is quite pliable when it is warm, it is recommended that the skate is in a wide open position (loose lacing with tongue out) to help ensure proper placement of the SPEED PLATE™ into the bottom of the skate. Once the SPEED PLATE™ has been inserted, slide the skate on the player’s foot.
- 5. Quickly lace up the skate. At this point, repeat step 4 for the 2nd skate.
